Welcome to Varsity Lakes (Lake Orr) central Gold Coast near Robina
Our Club - has currently the only protected location on the Gold Coast that can host "Olympic Triangle" racing for off-the-beach (OTB) dinghy and multihull boats. We rarely see a power boat, jelly fish, sandbank or tide. This is an exciting "Short Course" venue with viewing all around the lake for great media coverage. Our location in the Community Sports House provides a welcoming Social atmosphere.
Training - Our Sailing Club offers Sail Training to the Community and provides pathways from Recreational Sailing through to World Race Competition. We train Youth to Adult Sailors, Instructors, Coaches, Volunteers, and assist Sailors with a Disability. Currently operating from Tuesday to Saturday with Regattas and Corporate groups on special sundays.
Australian Sailing - We have recently been approved as a Discover Sailing Centre which gives us the opportunity to provide recognised Sail Training Courses and also links us to local School Students via Sporting Schools. These junior sailors are called "Tackers" and their pathway leads to the Sailing Australia Youth development squad, world competition, instructing, and officiating careers. These initiatives also enhance our existing "Adventure Tourism" programs for BOND University, and attract more Students, Officials, and Volunteers from the local Community. We provide both able bodied and disabled persons with access to State Team competition and Elite High Performance Training up to Olympic Standard in an inclusive friendly Club atmosphere.
Success - Our successes include Gold Medals at the last three Special Olympics World Summer Games competitions in Shanghai 2007, Athens 2011, and LA2015, and we hosted the HANSA Nationals over Easter 2016 at Sportshouse winning the State Teams Trophy for Queensland. Our Special Olympics invitational Inter-Club Regatta was held in August with a view to Team building for the next World Games.

Registered Charity & Not for Profit - ABN 83880159147 - Sailing Volunteers always needed. Our Programs - To the best of our knowledge our "Disability Sail Training and Special Olympics Programs" have produced the most "Solo Sailors" of any similar program in the World. We are a Not-for-Profit registered Charity assisting Sailors with a Disability, Persons out of work, and Volunteers by providing suitable boats and equipment, Club and Disability work experience, inclusive FREE sail training, and competition at international level. Special School Students are shown a life pathway to continue sailing as a career after graduation and our specialist Volunteer Coaches sail as buddies and mentors with the Disabled as required. The Club also provides basic Sail Training and Disability support work experience for Volunteers. Results - We produced the largest State Sailing Team at the Special Olympics Nationals in Melbourne 2014, and had the largest State representation at the Special Olympics World Summer Games in LA2015 (The largest sporting event in the World in 2015). Our Volunteers include the Australian Teams Head Coach who trained Nine Sailors to win 4 Gold Medals and 5 Silver Medals.
